Do I Need a Rug Pad?
If you have an area rug, then you need a rug pad. Every rug should have a rug pad under it for a few good reasons. Whether your rug is a machine made or handmade rug, new or antique, inexpensive or investment rug, it needs the proper rug pad under it.
Rug Pads Prolong the Life of Every Rug
A rug pad acts as a protective barrier between your rug and your floor, protecting both rug and floor. The better the rug pad, the better the protection. When a rug is walked on, it received a lot of stress on the fibers, the foundation and the back of the rug. A quality rug pad will prevent the back of the rug from premature wear against the hard floor. A rug pad will also resist much of the crushing that the pile of the rug goes through from people walking on it. A rug pad also creates an air flow for vacuuming. Dust particles are removed much easier from the foundation of your rug when the rug pad is under your rug. We must remember that since the rug is against a hard floor, the back of the rug is always rubbing against that floor when it is walked on. The fibers are on the back of many rugs and if these fibers start to wear, chances are the front of the rug will start to wear as well.
